Silentium

SILENTIUM
This book has been put together from a long-term project that Pete has been working on slowly for a number of years. All the plant forms are gathered from his own garden as the years and the seasons progress. Some are photographed immediately and some kept in his studio for weeks, months or sometimes years, until they reveal an aspect of their existence that arouses some visual interest.

What we define as 'landscape', is usually taken to mean the wider topographical vistas that we are used to seeing represented in much visual art. Existing within this however, are many other inner landscapes of smaller spaces and gardens where, within those again, exist private or semi-private environments. These contain many fascinating and varied arrangements of forms, colours and textures whose detail, when examined closely, is every bit equal, albeit in a smaller format, to what we can observe in the broader landscape.  Very often these forms become much more complex and intriguing at certain stages in their evolution, early or late, when we might not consider them to be at their picturesque best.
